Equal mixtures of pADP1 and pBDP1 cells at a total OD600 of 50 were reacted with 2.5 mM caffeine and the resulting reaction products were quantified over time. Caffeine (▲, green) was initially converted primarily to theobromine (, grey) and then to 7-methylxanthine (■, blue) with only minor production of paraxanthine (♦, red). All reactions were conducted in triplicate, and the representative data points are averages of the concentrations at a given time point with the corresponding standard deviation
